Current funding opportunities

The PhD programme for Primary Care Clinicians will build a sustainable multi-professional clinical academic workforce to lead and implement research to underpin developments in primary care practice. Annually 5 PhD studentships will be awarded to clinicians of all disciplines working in UK primary care.

The second round of the PhD Programme for Primary Care clinicians is open for applications. The closing date is noon on 20th December 2022 with interviews in February 2023 and doctorates commencing in October 2023. The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and the Society of Academic Primary Care (SAPC) would like to highlight the call for applications for the Outstanding Early Career Researcher Awards. There are two awards, one Academic General Practitioner and one Primary Care Scientist (Health Services Researcher).

These awards recognise individuals who have undertaken and published an exceptional piece of research relating to general practice or primary care. Each category winner is awarded £500 and will be invited to present their work at RCGP’s ‘Winners Enclosure’ at the annual conference (19th-29th October 2023) and the SAPC ASM 2023 (19th or 20th July 2023, Brighton).  The application deadline is 31 January 2023; for further information about these awards, please visit the RCGP website.
